How much should a website cost for a contractor?
Updated 2026-11-06 by the White Pine Web Design team
Short answer: Most small contractors should expect about $2,500 to $4,000 for a solid multi-page site, based on published Michigan prices as of November 2026. A one-trade, one-town contractor can often get by with a one-page site at about $750 to $1,200.
Most small contractors should expect about $2,500 to $4,000 for a solid multi-page site, based on published Michigan prices as of November 2026. If you run one trade in one town, a one-page site at about $750 to $1,200 may do the job. Spend more only when the extra pages would match real work you want.
What are contractors paying right now?
These are published prices as of November 2026. None of them came from an independent survey, so use them as rough guideposts.
| Option | Price | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| One-page site from a Michigan firm | $750 to $1,200 | Enough for one trade and a short service area? |
| Small site from a Michigan firm | $2,500 to $4,000 | Who writes the service pages? |
| Trades marketing plan | $249 a month with no setup fee | What's delivered, and what you keep when you go |
| Roofing site, per a cost guide | $4,500 to $9,500 for established roofers | The guide's method isn't published in full, so treat it as rough |
| National trades agency | Websites at $1,665 a month, local SEO around $3,750 to $4,000 | This buys a lead program, not just a site |
The gap between the top and bottom of that table is mostly about what you're buying. A website and a full marketing program are different products, even when both are called "a website."
What does a contractor's site need to do?
Your customer is often on a phone, and sometimes standing in water. The site has a short list of jobs:
- Get the call. A tap-to-call number stays at the top of every screen.
- Say what you do. Each main service is listed in plain words, and bigger jobs get their own page.
- Say where you work. Name the towns you really serve.
- Back it up. Show your license and insurance details, real project photos and real reviews.
- Catch the after-hours lead. A short form lets people send a photo and an address.
We'd skip the long company history and the stock photo of a handshake. A homeowner with a leak isn't looking for them.
How many pages does a contractor really need?
| Your situation | Size that usually fits | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| Solo or small crew, one trade, mostly referrals | One page | $750 |
| Small shop with a few main services | 5 pages | $2,500 |
| Several service lines, such as heating, cooling and maintenance plans | 10 pages | $4,000 |
| Many services, and someone to supply articles and project stories | 20 pages with blog | $5,500 |
This is our judgment, not a rule. You can start small and add pages later. Adding a page with us is $295. Only add a page when you have something real to say on it. Google's spam policy warns against near-identical pages aimed at different cities, so a stack of copied town pages isn't the shortcut it looks like.
How can you tell if the price makes sense?
Compare it with what a customer is worth to you. One vendor's benchmark puts the average Google Ads click in home services at $8.33 in its 2026 report. At that rate, our $2,500 site costs about the same as 300 ad clicks, except the site stays yours once it's paid for.
Now do your own math. Take your average profit on a job and work out how many extra jobs would pay for the site. If that number is small, the site is an easy call. If it's large, start smaller.
That math doesn't predict results. A website alone won't make the phone ring, and Google says plainly that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking. We can't either.
When is a cheaper option the better choice?
Here are the times we'd tell you to spend less:
- You're booked solid on referrals. A simple page with your number, license and photos may be plenty for now.
- You're brand new. A builder or a one-page site lets you learn what customers ask before you spend more.
- You want low monthly costs with marketing bundled in. Footbridge Media, a national company, advertises $249 a month with no contract and says you take your site with you if you leave. That's far below our Growth plan at $595 a month. We haven't tested its service, but if the work matches the description, it can be a fair choice for a contractor.
Monthly plans vary, so read the terms. One Lansing provider's $249 plan covers a lot and states clearly that the site goes offline if you cancel. That's a reasonable deal if you know about it going in.
What isn't included in a website price?
Usually, ongoing marketing isn't. Local SEO, Google Business Profile work and ads are separate jobs, and some firms price them far above the site. Ahrefs' 2024 survey of SEO providers found an average of $1,557 a month for local SEO.
With us, those are optional. You can stop at the site, add our Care plan at $99 a month for hosting, backups and small edits, or add our Growth plan at $595 a month for Google Business Profile management, monthly local SEO work and call tracking. Both run month to month with 30 days' notice.
What's a good next step?
Have a look at our sites for the trades, including the pages for heating and cooling and roofing. When you want a number, ask for a fixed price in writing. There's no sales call, and it's fine to compare it with other quotes.
Common questions
How much does a contractor website cost?
Published Michigan prices as of November 2026 run about $750 to $1,200 for one page and about $2,500 to $4,000 for a small multi-page site. Our 5-page site is $2,500.
How many pages does a contractor website need?
A solo contractor with one trade can often use one page. A small shop with a few main services usually fits 5 pages, and several service lines may call for about 10.
Is a monthly website plan a good deal for contractors?
It can be, especially if cash is tight. Read what's included and what happens to the site when you cancel, because the terms vary from one provider to the next.
Can a website guarantee more calls or a top ranking?
No. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and a site alone won't make the phone ring. Be careful with anyone who promises otherwise.
