What do people search before they hire a roofer?

Roof buyers research for a while. Typical searches are "roof replacement cost," "roof leak repair," "storm damage roof," "metal roof or shingles," "ice dam damage" and "roofers near me." Many also read reviews and look at finished jobs before they ask for an estimate.

Their questions are about trust and money. How long does it take? What is covered by the warranty, and who stands behind it? Do you clean up? Can I see work you finished near me?

Timing shapes the traffic. Searches for leaks and storm damage spike after bad weather, while replacement research tends to happen in the calmer months. A roofing site should be useful on both days: fast to read in a panic, and detailed enough for a long comparison at the kitchen table.

Which pages should a roofing site have?

  • Roof replacement and roof repair, each on its own page.
  • Storm damage: what to photograph, what to do first and how to request an inspection.
  • Materials: shingles, metal or flat roofing, whatever you actually install.
  • Project gallery: real photos with the town and the type of job.
  • Warranty and process: what is covered, by whom and for how long.

What does Michigan expect for licensing?

In Michigan, roofing is a listed trade on LARA's maintenance and alteration contractor license, and residential builders hold a separate license. LARA's rule for these licensees, R 338.1532, says all advertising must include the licensee's name, license number and actual business address as shown on the license, and a phone number or PO box alone is not enough. How that applies to a website is a question for LARA or your attorney, so confirm before you publish.

What mistakes do roofing sites make?

  • Stock photos of roofs that are not yours.
  • A vague "lifetime warranty" line. Separate the manufacturer's warranty from your workmanship warranty, and say how long each lasts.
  • No license details, name or address on the page.
  • Promising to "handle your insurance claim" when you mean you will document the damage.
  • A gallery with no towns or dates, so nothing proves the work is recent.

Start with the jobs you have photos of, and add projects as you finish them. A 5-page site is $2,500; see all prices and the sample sites.
